Based o my own observations, in our locality of Sto.Tomas, Davao del norte, so many retirees especailly in the Department of Education, lead a lonesome life. Its because when they received their lump sum, they were mislead by a big time bussinesswoman who borrowed almost 80% of the teacher's proceed in her retirement. They were made to be capitalized of her newly created isurance company. So, the poor 65 years old teacher from our school suffered a lot. She was not able to get back her money because the woman who was supposed to be the ower of the isurance company was nowhere to be found. Poor old woman, she was only renting the house of our co-teacher who happened to have her house fully-paid in a subdivision. I said please erase the rent. You can allow her to live there without pay. So my co-teacher agreed with me. The poor teacher (retiree) will receive her regular pension by January 2009. My question is, is this the life of a retiree from government service? Is the Department of Education has a plan in improvig the lives of their retirees? I hope the goverment will pay attention to this problem.

FAQs about Pag-IBIG: Membership, Registration, Contributions, Reactivation

In my long years of conducting lectures, a.k.a Fund briefings, I've collected the most FAQs there is on Membership ranging from coverage, registration, contributions, reactivation. I will, at another time, post on issues about the FAQs on Pag-IBIG's Short-Term Loan, Pag-IBIG's Housing Loan, and Acquired Assets. Here goes.

1. Q: How can a member secure a Pag-IBIG number prior to employment?

A: An individual need not go to Pag-IBIG to secure a number, it will automatically be assigned to the member upon posting of initial contribution (whether as employed, self-employed, as individual-payor, as an OFW, or as Pag-IBIG II member).

2. Q: Will Pag-IBIG issue a membership card after the initial registration/ remittance?

A: At the moment issuance of the Pag-IBIG ID is suspended. However, a member may request for a print-out of contributions to confirm registration with Pag-IBIG.

3. Q: How can I be a member?

A: If you are employed, it’s the duty of our employer to collect & remit the required contributions to the Fund. Upon the initial remittance you are automatically a member. If you are a self-employed, individual payor, or an OFW, you may secure the membership papers, accomplish, & make the initial registration-remittance on the nearest Pag-IBIG office.

There are three (3) savings program under Pag-IBIG.

(1) Pag-IBIG I (P1)
-“employee-employer” deduction, self-employed, individual payor, self-paying membership;
- contribution rate from P200 to P950 or over;
- withdrawable upon 20 years (240 monthly contributions), maturity, retirement, disability, insanity, separation from service by reason of health, death, and optional withdrawal at 10 or 15 years of continuous membership; and
- dividend rate of variable percentage per annum.

(2) Pag-IBIG II (P2)
- minimum P500 per month contribution for employed and self-employed individuals;
- withdrawable upon either 5, 10, 15, or 15 years maturity; and
- fixed dividend rate of 7.5% per annum

(3) Pag-IBIG Overseas Program (POP)
- contribution rate from P200 to P950 or over;
- withdrawable upon either 5, 10, 15, or 15 years maturity; and
- fixed dividend rate of 7.5% per annum

4. Q: What are the (membership) requirements?

A: For employed individuals, it’ll be their respective employers who will be required to submit employment records of its employees.

For self-employed, individual payors, OFWs, any proof of what you say you are (photocopy):
(1) Any valid ID showing picture, name & signature

for Self-Employed, it’s either:
(2) Business permit/ DTI registration certificate (engaged in business); or
(3) SSS Self-Employed registration [RS-1 &/or RS-5]; or
(4) Professional Tax Receipt & PRC card (practicing professionals); or
(5) Land title & Certification from 2 Barangay officials re: source of livelihood (farming); or
(6) Certificate of Commission Basis (if without basic salary).

for Individual Payor, it's either:
(7) Working contract; or
(8) Certificate of Contract & Compensation (job order contractors).

for OFWs, it's either:
(9) Seaman’s book; or
(10) working contract; or
(11) Certificate of Employment & Compensation; or
(12) Passport and Visa (photocopy).

5. Q: I am employed but we only have SSS & PHIC coverage, may I register myself as self-employed or voluntary paying member?

A: No, the Implementing Rules requires that the employer should register you (all employees).

However, it may be temporarily allowed if it is because of housing loan intention. The Membership Unit of Pag-IBIG will accept initial registration, as self-paying, but we will require the employer to register eventually.

6. Q: I work as a job order contractual in (a certain government office) but we not covered by SSS/GSIS, may I register voluntarily?

A: Voluntarily, Yes, as an Individual payor.

7. Q: I’ve been a member for so long but I don’t know my Pag-IBIG number, I wish to request for an ID, what division should I go to?

A: You may visit our Membership Unit at the Marketing & Enforcement Division at the Ground Floor of Pryce Tower for us to provide you a print-out of your contributions where your Pag-IBIG will be reflected. Pag-IBIG ID’s, however, are suspended indefinitely (since 1997).

8. Q: I transferred from one employer to another several times and don’t know my number?

A: You definitely have more than one (1) Pag-IBIG number. It is a result of
- having multiple employment, either simultaneously or at different intervals;
- changing marital status;
- erroneous declaration of employer/s, payroll in-charge, or by the employee.

Visit the Marketing & Enforcement Unit for details. We will advise you on what forms to accomplish to either have it edited, merged or transferred.

9. Q: Can I pay in advance to easily avail of Pag-IBIG Fund’s loan extension programs?

A: For the Housing Loan Program, YES, you may pay the twenty-four (24) monthly contribution requirement or its lacking number of months, to qualify.
For the short term loan, most known to the majority as the Multi-Purpose Loan, NO, there must be an actual (residency) membership contributions of twenty-four (24) months, and most of all, an active member

10. Q: How can I request for a replacement of my old Pag-IBIG ID?

A: It is suspended indefinitely, so we cannot issue you a new one just yet.

11. Q: How long does it take for a member to avail of a loan extended by the Fund?

A: Standard procedure requires twenty-four months or two years contribution, so long as it is updated at the time of loan availment.

12. Q: Can a non-working spouse avail of the housing program of Pag-IBIG?

A: No. Non-working simply means no means of salary or income, a dependent of a ‘working’ spouse, therefore has no capacity to pay. We do, however, encourage Self-Employed membership instead. Requirements? Please refer to Question #4.

13. Q: How frequent can an employer deduct Pag-IBIG contributions to his employee/s?

A: It all depends on the mode of releasing salary/wages, it may be on a weekly mode, semi-monthly (either every 15th and every 30th, or its cut-off equivalent), or monthly.

14. Q: Can household helpers qualify for membership with Pag-IBIG?

A: Yes, their monthly contribution will depend on their monthly salary, for compensation not exceeding P1,500.00, monthly contribution is 1% while employer counterpart is 2%.
So, as an example, if a household helper receives P1,400.00 per month, employee’s contribution is P14.00 and P28.00 as counterpart by the employer. 2% employee contribution commences where salary is P1,501.00 and above, and the employer’s share is at 2%.

15. Q: What is the maximum allowable age for membership with Pag-IBIG?

A: 59 years old.

16. Q: Can an individual who is an OFW register while working abroad?

A: Yes, the Membership Unit of Pag-IBIG will evaluate the required documents submitted by the nearest kin, a Special Power of Authority is not needed. And for as long as the attachment jives with the Member’s Data Form, all signatures affixed and data supplied, an absentee membership applicant may register.

17. Q: How much is the monthly contributions?

A: The minimum contribution amount is P200 per month (combined employee and employer counterpart) while the maximum is unlimited.

18. Q: What if an individual already has a house, is working but mandatorily covered, can he/ she be excused from the coverage?

A: No, the law requires that all employees covered by SSS and GSIS with a monthly compensation P4,000.00 and above is mandatorily covered, thus, should be covered (deducted by the employer and must be registered/ remitted by the same- until separation). The housing program is optional but the savings programs is mandatory.

19. Q: I got a main job, as well as a part-time job, can I enroll myself twice?

A: There is what we call ‘multiple coverage’. Should the compensation under the ‘part-time’ job fall under the mandatory category, the employer is bound to deduct 2% for the employee’s personal contribution and remit the same together with its counterpart, thus, double coverage.

20. Q: My spouse is already a member, we both work, can I excuse myself from being a member?

A: No, if you are mandatorily covered. Besides, it helps to have a separate Pag-IBIG savings ‘account’. You never know when you will need the Fund’s assistance, either through short term or long term.

21. Q: Can a pensioner still apply for membership with Pag-IBIG?

A: No, a pension is not an income. And a prospective member may register only either as (1) Employed, (2) Self-employed, (3) Individual Payor, (4) Overseas Filipino Worker, or (5) reactivating Self-Paying member.

22. Q: Aside from Pag-IBIG office, where can I (Self-Employed; Individual Payor; OFW; Individual Payor) pay my contributions (even loan payments)?

A: Initial registration MUST be made directly at the Pag-IBIG branch nearest you or where you belong. Subsequent remittances or loan repayments may be paid at either any Land Bank of the Phils. (LBP), Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP), or United Coconut Planters Bank (UCPB).

Posting of payments will definitely be delayed. So, periodic updating/ reconciliation must be made.

23. Q: I was a member when I was still an employee back then until I worked abroad, what will happen to my contributions?

A: Contributions made under Pag-IBIG 1 even if it becomes inactive will still enjoy the benefit of earning dividends yearly. Even if one registers anew under the Pag-IBIG Overseas Program, it is recommended that the Pag-IBIG 1 membership be reactivated as bigger contributions will yield bigger dividend earnings, bigger entitlement when borrowing, and bigger return of investment upon maturity.

What is Alzheimer's desease?

Alzheimer's disease is a form of dementia, a term used to describe a group of brain disorders that cause memory loss and a decline in mental function, over time. In fact, Alzheimer's disease is the most common form of dementia, affecting about 5 million men and women in the United States.

The incidence of Alzheimer's disease increases with age, and is very rare among people younger than 60. It affects up to 50 percent of people older than 85, and the risk increases with age. Although the first symptoms of Alzheimer's disease are often confused with the changes that take place in normal aging, it's important to remember that Alzheimer's disease is not a normal part of aging.

Doctors and scientists are making steady progress in understanding some of the ways in which Alzheimer's disease affects the brain, but the cause is still unknown. Talk with the doctor if you or the person you are caring for is experiencing any of the symptoms associated with the various stages of Alzheimer's because there are medications approved to treat the disease that have been shown to delay progression and onset of new Alzheimer's symptoms.

More bout Alzheimer's Disease

Alzheimer's Disease is Not a Normal Part of Aging. Misplacing car keys, and not remembering a familiar name. Some people do become more forgetful as they get older. That's a normal part of aging. Alzheimer's disease is not.

Alzheimer's disease affects approximately 5 million people in the U.S. Over time, Alzheimer's disease gradually destroys a person's memory and ability to learn and carry out daily activities such as talking, eating, and going to the bathroom. As the disease progresses, individuals may also experience changes in personality and behavior. Unfortunately, there are no cures for Alzheimer's disease and there is no way to predict how fast someone will progress through the stages of the disease.

However, early Alzheimer's diagnosis and treatment can slow the progression of Alzheimer's symptoms. If you or someone you are caring for is suffering from Alzheimer's disease, you may want to talk with the doctor about a unique Alzheimer's medication called Namenda® (memantine HCl)*. It works in an entirely different way than all of the other Alzheimer's therapies on the market and has been shown in clinical trials to safely and effectively treat moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease.

When a person is suffering from Alzheimer's disease, abnormal changes are taking place in the brain. The cause of Alzheimer's disease begins with nerve cells, responsible for learning and memory functions, which begin to become damaged and eventually die. As a result, certain aspects of brain functioning that control memory, behavior, personality, and other bodily functions, can be lost.

As these changes occur, a person with Alzheimer's disease will advance through the stages of Alzheimer's disease, suffering from the various symptoms associated with them.9 It's important to understand the stages and symptoms of Alzheimer's disease to ensure appropriate treatment.

With emotions running my system, I couldn't think too well. Should I prefer to choose a small family rather than having a large family size?

For my own opinion, I would prefer to choose a small family because in my thoughts, I know that having a small family size is an advantage.

Parents always want to make the best decisions for their children. The most essential decision they have to make is the size of their family. Parents have to consider whether it is better for their children to grow up in a large family or to grow up in a small family. Still, I believe that having a small family size is the best. Although a large family and a small family both have their own advantages and disadvantages in the aspects of family’s finance and child companionship.

I know people from large families who are quite happy with their circumstances and wouldn't trade their many siblings for anything. And I know people who are only child or who have only one sib who were content growing up that way.

I'd say the answer for this question is going to be rather subjective. It's often said that the internal structures of small and large families tend to be different. In small families, the children tend to have more contact with adults than in large families. In the latter they usually have much more contact with some of their siblings. I've also heard it said that in really large families the kids tend to cluster in two or more groups.

A family financial condition is tightly related to the size of the family. The living cost for a large is surely much higher than the living cost for a small family. As the result, children in a large family would have less financial supports from their parents.

In contrast, in a small family, parents can give more resources to their children. For instance, their children can receive better education, or have more opportunities to develop some costly interests. My friend, Justin, is the only child in their family. His parents always support him to do whatever the things he wishes to do, such as traveling abroad and developing his interest in music. On the other hand, I, growing up in a large family, do not have as many chances to do things I want as Justin do. From this example, I believe children in a small family can receive more supports from their parents than children in a large family can receive.

Although children in the large family might not receive much supports from their parents, they have more companies to talk to and to play with. That is definitely a great advantage for children in a large family. They will not feel lonely at home because their brothers or sister are always their best companies throughout their lives. On the other hand, if a family only has a single child, the child would often feel lonely, and feel eager to have a brother or a sister. Luck enough, I have a brother and a sister, and I never feel lonely at home. They are always the best friend to talk to and to share my feeling with. Children would definite benefit a lot from having more companies at home, and it is an advantage a small family doe not have.

After all, there is not really an answer for the best family size because both large and small family have their own advantages and disadvantages. Children in a small family can receive more supports than children in a large family. However, children in a large family can have more companies at home than children in a small family can have. Because the size of a family could affect children greatly, the parents should think carefully before they decide how many children they are going to have.

It is a chemical product which is very dangerous if it was taken by an individual. It will do damage our body. Like for example, the milk products or canned goods. How can we know that those products has already been inspected by your office? Please inform us how to identify your marks so that we won't be annoyed about that matter.

The Bureau of Food And Drugs has been gleefully warning us about the dangers of China-made food and personal care products recently. announcing the discovery of toxic chemicals in products made by other countries (especially a Communist country) allows the BFAD to appear as if it's protecting the public without having to tell the truth about the toxic chemicals found in American food and personal care products. Talking about the deadly chemicals and poisons used by American food and personal care product manufacturers is, of course, an activity to be avoided at all costs. It's much easier to point the finger of blame at someone else and imply that U.S. manufacturers of such products would never poison their customers.

The case is just one of several that point to poor regulation in China, which has been criticized previously for not sharing information on the bird-flu virus and the severe acute respiratory syndrome outbreak in 2003.

China has ordered strengthened controls over its food industry after a series of health scares with international repercussions laid bare lax standards. The department in charge of inspecting export products said it had instructed its offices across China to increase inspections and supervision.

What is narcotic?

Narcotics are drugs that alleviate physical pain, suppress coughing, alleviate diarrhea, and induce anesthesia. Natural narcotics are derived from the Opium poppy and synthetic narcotics are made to act like the major constituents of Opium (thebaine, morphine, codeine). Legal, synthetic narcotics such as OxyContin (oxycodone) and Vicodin (hydrocodone) are prescribed as pain-relievers but are often diverted for illegitimate uses. Heroin is an illegal narcotic, derived from morphine

How can we prevent narcotics?

We are adviced that we should prefer to use anti-inflammatory medications rather than narcotics together with the local anesthesia to prevent pain, and decrease side effects, we also avoid the use of powerful anesthetic gases which can cause severe post-operative nausea. Although many of our patients complain about feeling sick after previous surgeries in other facilities, it is very rare after surgery at our center.

Substance Abuse Overview

People abuse substances such as drugs, alcohol, and tobacco for varied and complicated reasons, but it is clear that our society pays a significant cost. The toll for this abuse can be seen in our hospitals and emergency departments through direct damage to health by substance abuse and its link to physical trauma. Jails and prisons tally daily the strong connection between crime and drug dependence and abuse. Although use of some drugs such as cocaine has declined, use of other drugs such as heroin and "club drugs" has increased. Abused substances produce some form of intoxication that alters judgment, perception, attention, or physical control. Many substances can bring on withdrawal-an effect caused by cessation or reduction in the amount of the substance used. Withdrawal can range from mild anxiety to seizures and hallucinations. Drug overdose may also cause death.

How can we control narcotics?

A major step forward to fight narcotics and organized crime is the Merida Initiative, a cooperative security partnership between the United States, Mexico,Central America and all country. We estimate that over 530 metric tons of cocaine are smuggled from South America to the United States each year, with more than 90 percent passing through Mexico. Other country's also a major supplier of heroin, methamphetamine and marijuana destined for U.S. markets, and Mexican drug trafficking organizations now control many of the drug distribution networks within the United States. Treating and controlling pain is a primary concern for all members of the health care team, including your doctors, nurses and the hospital and home care team. According to the World Health Organization committee on cancer pain, 90 to 95 percent of all cancer pain can be well controlled using a special set of guidelines. These guidelines separate pain into levels of intensity and suggest tailoring the strength and potency of prescribed pain-relieving medications to the intensity. Not all cancer pain requires strong narcotics. But strong pain requires strong medications. Narcotic pain be treated with nonnarcotic medications such as aspirin,acetaminophen (Tylenol) or other aspirin-like drugs called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

It can be used as pain reliver. There are two ways to define "narcotics".

The medical definition is drugs derived from the opium poppy. "Narco" is from the Greek for sleep. These drugs put you to sleep. There are several drugs made from the poppy that are used and abused, but in your body all are metabolized to the same active compound, and so effectively they are all the same drug. These drugs include opium, morphine, and heroin.

Medically, they can be used as analgesics, to deaden pain, and anesthetics, to make patients unconscious for surgery. There are also at least a few synthetic versions which used to be used medically. Two I remember are fentanyl and sufentanyl (probably googlable). I don't know if they are still used, but they were also used as analgesics and anesthetics.

Wow! Initially, if someone like me dreams off becoming a Radio Jockey....probably got some extra attention from your peers and family members. Yes, It is a priceless happiness deep within.

Once upon a time, we back on the year 1999 as I started my interest in looking for some sorts of ideas that will help me fulfill to be counted as one. Radyo Natin FM in my little Home town Sto. Tomas Davao Del Norte, a community radio station owned by the Manila Broadcasting Company (MBC) has brought me strong determination to continue my quest. Same year when RN launches their Radyo Natin Academy, A program of the station that welcomes for volunteers to be trained and will be granted certificates after completing the course.

To qualify, I need to provide a voice tape as preliminary entry then probably need to pass the live audition to be conducted by the station's PA. Good thing that the officer in charge of RN Sto. Tomas is my friend, even before the program was introduce nationwide by MBC to all RN Stations I was already and had been regularly joined him doing some board work during 12:00 noon for local prime time sot. Unfortunately, I was unable to pass the Audition as evaluated by the senior production officer of MBC for RN in their main office in Manila.

Honestly, it really broke my heart after the incident....Meanwhile, the recovery process was too short and prompted me to look for another chance in Davao City. In Nova tierra with my sister's stereo, I spent almost of my time a day just by scanning radio stations waiting for a DJ to announce their contact info and if got one noted... I automatically make a call and ask anybody in the station if they're hiring for a trainee or a new DJ. It's been months of soaring search for almost nothing at all and never know if for a chance there are openings, I would be at least given a chance just to audition. Never to mention if I'll not be up to snuff for the second time around.

Now, Because of the combination of hard work and determination I was able got in touch with one of the Dj's of Start FM Davao 96.3 a Bombo Radyo Philippines PBS Company, its been weeks since then until he invited me to talk to her manager casually and introduce myself then elaborate my willingness to be trained. I was very fortunate when the manager considered me to qualify after my live audition with them. I was then given an air name "Dj eric" by the production panel and started my own first radio program on graveyard slot from 12MN to 4AM.

It was a year after, When the senior vice-president of Bombo radyo Philippines sent a memo instructing all station managers of star FM nationwide to strictly implement a "no degree no employment policy". This is in connection with the mis-conduct shown by some of the unprofessional employees of the company especially in Gensan Branch. For the second time, it dooms my chance of becoming a real radio personality. My training with them was discontinued immediately.

Although, it is very hard to accept but it was so real that I have had been junk again.. later after few days, I visited Magik FM 104.3 a CCMCI company situated in Ecoland. And there, I was Acquainted with some girl fanatics with the station's younger Jocks compared to other stations. Obviously, I sense that maybe magik FM would somehow give me a break although the station doesn't really have a good history wrapping up with several surveys officially conducted by the Radio Research Council (RRC) together with the the KBP. After giving all my best and almost my time for the station, The management decides to officially employed me as a member of the production panel and a radio announcer at the same time.

GSIS Retirees will suffer with the present GSIS set up

Just a few days from now we be having the occasions on testimonial of the retiree. We one coteacher who will soon retire from service. In silence I felt that this retiree will suffer in getting her pension or lump sum claim.How can they claim there payments?Good if the payments made by this teacher has already been recorded?The GSIS has not updated our payments yet up to now.Our qeurries will remain unanswered for sometime. WHAT IF THE RETIREE WILL NOT BE CONCERNED IN ASKING ABOUT THEIR ACCOUNTS? A simple retiree will just go home if told that her payments for pension has not arrived yet.Poor teacher has to wait for sometime until she nothing just for fare?So if the GSIS will continue to do this things retirees will soon suffer.This article may serve as avenue to change their system.Or else the old poor teacher will suffer.

Based o my ow observations, in our locality of Sto.Tomas, Davao del norte, so many retirees especailly in the Department of Education, lead a lonesome life. Its because when they received their lump sum, they were mislead by a big time bussinesswoman who borrowed almost 80% of the teacher's proceed in her retirement. They were made to be capitalized of her newly created isurance company. So, the poor 65 years old teacher from our school suffered a lot. She was not able to get back her money because the woman who was supposed to be the ower of the isurance company was nowhere to be found. Poor old woman, she was only renting the house of our co-teacher who happened to have her house fully-paid in a subdivision. I said please erase the rent. You can allow her to live there without pay. So my co-teacher agreed with me. The poor teacher (retiree) will receive her regular pension by January 2009. My question is, is this the life of a retiree from government service? Is the Department of Education has a plan in improvig the lives of their retirees? I hope the goverment will pay attention to this problem.

Lately as the tricycle follows the down to the new GSIS building situated in the heart of the city I was thinking about the content of the check I have recieved which only a penny of what i was expecting after paying the required amount after the consolidated loans last year. I was so discouraged upon the answer I received from the operator of the GSIS-teller machine.The guard of the agency was the operator. How cna you asked details about your queery?I have in mind that Ihave already paid 13 months. But only to find out that the GSIS is not updated regarding the posting of our ne rate and the deductions of our loans. It is sad t note that we are alreay computerized but they have not done the computerization of all GSIS deductions.When i go home on that night i had a sleepless night, bec ause the money that I have was not enough o meet the needs of my children.But I have no choice except to encash the check that i have which is amounting to 9,047.53. How would this amount be enough to met my 2 college students oneis taking up nursing(academic scholar) and the other first year B.S.Psychology students.I was expecting 47,ooo as what my co teacher received. WE are having the same payments. Until now this complain of mine is still existing. I have gone to the GSIS office again because we barred by the Dep. ED rules not to leave our classes. I cant file a leave of absence because i dont have anymore service credits. So this question remained unanwered.I have tried to text GSIS, but their answer is they have not updated our accounts. So, I was so helpless. I thought when we are already computerized it is easy for us to asked about our accounts. But all my dreams were all in vain.I have found out that they have not updated my monthly salaries. My salary before was only 12,ooo plus when im already receiving 16,123. We can see the difference. So its useless , the computerization does not help us teachers instead it adds agony to us.I can only consult these to the proper authorities on April 2009 , vacation time.
